According to the traditional teachings of Yoga and various mystical teachings, human beings are constituted not only by a gross physical form but by a series of energetic subtle bodies each of increasing subtlety and metaphysical significance. Derived principally from the Indian spiritual tradition where they were originally conceived as sheaths covering the immortal soul these concepts spread throughout the West in the late nineteenth century through the theosophical movement.

Subtle body is more specifically a term for the pranic, mental and consciousness bodies considered collectively.

The concept of one or more subtle bodies in human beings is a common philosophical element in diverse spiritual traditions.

Your actual physical body is only a small part of your true self. The human body is not just the blood and bones we perceive on the physical plane.

We are made of energy that permeates every layer of our being. The aura or energy field is usually invisible to the human eye, but most people can learn to perceive it in one way or another with practice. The aura is densest close to the body and becomes finer moving away from it. Most human Auras extend from 1 to 5 feet out around the body.

The Aura and energy body has layers and energetic structures and channels and organs within it. Trauma and emotional disturbance can create blocks and other damage in your energy body, if the damage is not repaired and continues to occur over a time then the outward manifestation of this is disease.

The Aura changes constantly it may have a predominant color in the emotional and causal layers. The way the Aura is perceived can vary greatly from person to person so remarks about the layers are based on a general consensus but are by no means absolute. Some people see them as heat waves or distinct colors. Size also varies greatly largely depending on the energy level of the person and the way they use that particular part of themselves.

Stress, trauma and emotional pain can show as distortions and blocks in the aura long before they manifest as illness in the physical plane. Each layer is related to the chakra of the same number.

It is thought that perceiving auras is not limited to a few select humans, but like all other senses, is accessible by all. Like any other sense, concentration and focus is important in learning to fine tune first, the perception of, and later, the reading, of auras. Every human will perceive and interpret auras differently, hence the controversy between well (and lesser) known psychics and mediums.

In order to begin perceiving auras one must clear one's mind. Find a nice spot outside on a sunny day with few clouds and look up into the sky. Relax your vision and let your eye's focus begin to waver. After a few moments (the length of time will depend on an individual's sensitivity) one will be observe flashy "dots" or points of light that seem to move in erratic fashion. It is not known exactly what they are, or how they function, but it is assumed that they are a form of information-energy that the universe uses to communicate and replenish itself. Begin to observe these "dots" around the perimeter of a tree and one will perceive that they dart in and out of the tree.

If an individual really desires to learn to see energy and auras, it will come. Like everything else time and effort is involved, as well as an open mind.

Below is a definition of intuition.

1. The act or faculty of knowing or sensing without the use of rational processes; immediate cognition.
2. Knowledge gained by the use of this faculty; a perceptive insight.
3. A sense of something not evident or deducible; an impression.

We all use intuition in our every day lives, although many of us aren’t consciously aware of it. It’s that gut instinct, the times when we “just know something” even if we can’t explain how or why.

Reiki tends to bring that intuition to the surface, to unlock your own inner potential. In my opinion, it only makes sense being that we’re channeling the Universal Life Force Energy that we may be guided to treat things intuitively. Through the process of internal growth, we can learn to understand that intuitive guidance. This DOES NOT mean to speak without understanding consequences. We have a responsibility to take great care when sharing any intuitive guidance we may receive. Just because you may receive something intuitively does not mean that it is to be shared. More often it is meant to assist in YOUR growth as a healer.
