As a Reiki practitioner, we have a responsibility to treat ourselves and our clients with the utmost respect, understanding, and compassion. Follow what you feel, but maintain common sense.
Obviously, we must respect the physical privacy of our clients. Work above sensitive areas of the body such as the groin and breast areas.
As practitioners, we work to facilitate healing on every level; mental, physical, spiritual, and emotional. Each of these is just as sacred as others. This means that we also must respect clients on each of these levels.
Confidentiality is also important. Clients come to you in confidence. Maintain that confidence.
Again, I will say this, a Reiki practitioner is not a substitute for qualified medical advice or care. Reiki is a complement to other systems, not a substitute.
During a session, I call on the assistance of Reiki Masters, Teachers, and Practitioners, past, present, and future to aid and assist in the healing of myself and the client for the greatest possible good.
I also call on God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, Ascended Masters, and all Beings of Light to aid and assist in the healing session as well as to guide me and allow me to be the clearest, purest conduit possible.
It is fair to expect an even exchange for the work you do. The most common exchange in the West is money; however, you may also exchange for other goods or services, time, or even the ability to practice for self improvement.
Whatever you consider to be an even exchange, you must maintain balance.
Your time is important. You are important. Don't sell yourself short, but at the same time, don't go overboard.
It is important to maintain a level of protection when doing any form of energy work.
Although Reiki does have safeguards and no harm can be done, it is a good habit to protect ourselves during any exchange of energy.
Personally, I use a violet flame. In my mind, I set the intention to surround my body in a violet flame of protection allowing only the highest possible good to pass through. Anything negative is kept out or disintegrated in the flame.
I visualize this as a very powerful, very strong, thin film similar in consistency to plasma. I use this every time I have a session, usually before I even see the client. I use this method before doing any kind of work, whether I'm working with a client in person, or from a distance.
Also, I visualize a wall of this same plasma material surrounding the healing space. This way, as I pull out negative, dense energy, I throw it against the wall and anything negative is disintegrated in the plasma and the rest is returned to the universe to be recycled and used for the highest possible good.
Once we are done with a session, it is important to disconnect from our clients.
This is to avoid and prevent you from carrying the burdens of the client or holding on to their energy.
As practitioners we are here to facilitate our client's healing, not heal for them.
A few ways to accomplish this is to set the intention for the separation to occur. I use the Raku symbol after every session to separate and disconnect from the client.
You learn more about this symbol at Reiki Level III. For now, understand that this symbol is used for grounding and to seal and disconnect after a session.
I visualize a door closing and locking at the end of every session with the Raku symbol on the door to seal in the energy and disconnect from the client.
